Family Deals: From Pet-Friendly Lake Tahoe to Kid-Friendly India

This week’s news includes a pet package for a Lake Tahoe resort, guided tours of India, free stays for kids in Colorado Springs and a new South Carolina family resort.

Pet-friendly Lake Tahoe Resort

No need to leave Fido behind on your next family ski trip! Lake Tahoe’s Montbleu Resort Casino & Spa wants the whole family to enjoy some time on the lake with its Bleu Ribbon Pet Package. Through the end of 2008, book a one-night stay in a pet-friendly room starting at $119, plus $35 per pet. As a special welcome, guests receive a personalized name tag for pets with the owner’s name, a treat for the furry companions, a property map that details pet-friendly areas in the resort and a list of local pet services (e.g., veterinarians and parks). A pet bed, and food and water dishes, are also provided, as well as room service. Visit www.montbleuresort.com to check for details and availability. (Read our Tahoe Deals article for more savings opportunities and our Pet-Friendly Packages item on vacation activities for your pooch.)

India Tour Caters to Large Groups

Spend two weeks in India with the family, courtesy of Greaves Tours. Groups from four to 12 people can enjoy a guided tour of Delhi, Jaipur and the Himalayas, among other destinations, where families can learn henna-painting and take sitar lessons. Departure dates are about once per month starting in April and continue through the end of the year; prices start at $6,125 per person and include hotel stays, travel vehicles, all activities and some meals.

Cultural buffs can spend time exploring UNESCO sites such as the Taj Mahal and a trip through the Himalayas. Add on a trip through Udaipur for less than $2,000 more. If India’s not your flavor, the company also customizes packages to Nepal, Bhutan and the Indian Ocean. Visit www.greavestvl.com or call 800-318-7801 for more info.

Kids Under 21 Stay Free in Colorado Springs

In 2008, the Black Forest Bed & Breakfast Lodge and Cabins in Colorado Springs is offering free stays for kids under 21 when they stay in the same room as their parents. A stay for a family of four averages less than $200 per night. Just 30 minutes from most tourist attractions in the Pikes Peak area, the family-run B&B’s spacious log cabins leave plenty of room for everyone to stretch after a long day of skiing or sightseeing. The Redden family children hand-deliver a breakfast of hot muffins and fresh fruit to guests each morning and juice, tea and coffee are provided in the rooms. Visit www.blackforestbb.com for more information or to book a stay.

New Resort Village Opening in South Carolina

Leave home without leaving behind the familial atmosphere. The family-friendly Village at Wild Dunes in Charleston, S.C., is now open for spring and summer reservations; book your stay before the end of March and save up to 30 percent. Enjoy all the features of the Wild Dunes Resort in an intimate village atmosphere. Children can participate in the Island Adventures program, which hosts kayak tours, kite-sailing and an eco-tour around the local salt marshes. The resort also offers family packages starting at $450 per night, which include a three-night stay, daily breakfast and an outdoor excursion, such as parasailing. Families can also rent bikes to create their own tour, take yoga classes, golf or tennis lessons, or grab a 30-minute express treatment from the Sand & Sea salon and spa. Visit www.wilddunes.com or call 888-845-8918 to make reservations.
