The Inspiration of Yosemite

Our Yosemite issue marks the official launch of the TravelMuse Beta site and introduces the Inspiration Finder—an industry first—and the TravelMuse Planner.

Welcome to the TravelMuse Beta site!

After more than a year of development, we’re excited to introduce the Inspiration Finder and the TravelMuse Planner with this new product release. Travel is a passion for all of us who built this company, as it probably is for many of you, and we designed these tools to help make the travel planning process easier.

What is the Inspiration Finder? It’s a new tool that gives you the power to discover destinations that fit your travel needs based on several variables—desired budget, theme, activities, distance, and number and age of travelers. It was developed in conjunction with the new TravelMuse Planner in order to help people easily find relevant travel information and to organize, track and share trip research in one central location.

Truth be told, I’m not one to usually get excited about technology. But I used our Planner for a recent vacation—where I kept track of hotels, restaurants, places to visit, article clippings from various Web sites, recommendations from friends and personal notes. I’ve also played around with a test model of the Inspiration Finder—which has opened my eyes to destinations I hadn’t considered before (along with finding some terrific package deals). I have to say I think these tools are pretty cool.

All of us at TravelMuse hope you think so too—so much so that we’re offering the chance to win a $1,000 travel voucher for those who register on TravelMuse. Sign up now!

Travel Guides, Original Content, TravelMusings

TravelMuse also offers travel guides to 200 destinations around the globe, and we publish an online magazine each week featuring original articles written by a team of editors, freelance contributors and interns. We currently have a strong bent toward family travel coverage, but we’ll be extending our focus beyond that demographic later this year. In addition, with this new release we’re launching TravelMusings, a blog where we’ll post ideas, experiences and news items that don’t quite fit into our regular editorial sections.

Yosemite National Park is the focus for this week’s issue. National parks are a popular destination, especially for family travelers, and Yosemite is one of the best the United States has to offer. From iconic views, as famously captured by Ansel Adams—who found much inspiration during his visits to the park—to hikes up Half Dome and through redwood forests to river rafting to camping to lodges in the park, Yosemite has something to offer just about everyone.

Contributor Debbie K. Hardin does a fantastic job covering all this and more in our cover feature package. Check out Civilized Wilderness for an overview of Yosemite, and her Yosemite hikes article for recommended trails good for families, broken down by age appropriateness. Follow her family rafting jaunt down the Merced River, then see where you can relax and rejuvenate in her lodging article. Book reviewer Sue Fliess shares the poop (literally) on two very different kinds of guidebooks on Yosemite: one for kids and one for adults.

This week also kicks off a weekly series of articles on theme parks and amusement parks with a piece on park discounts from around the country. With saving money top of mind for many travelers this summer, we also have articles on Dad’s Day deals and where to find gas card incentives offered by hotels and other travel services.

Back Page columnist Amy Hatch offers tips for taking the nanny on a family vacation; Andrew Weiss recommends minor league baseball for some good old-fashioned (and affordable) summer vacation fun; and I share an experience of getting covered in mud at Volcán El Totumo outside Cartagena, Colombia in our Offbeat column. And did you know that 2008 is the Year of the Potato? Read senior editor Jill Robinson’s fun piece on it in our latest Taste Spuds, er, Taste Buds column.

So what are you waiting for? Come explore our new site and get inspired to plan your next great vacation.

Happy travels!
