Explore Historical Vacations in Philadelphia
As far as historical vacations in the United States go, you can’t pick a better locale than the birthplace of the U.S. Constitution. A hotbed for political activity and revolutionaries in the 18th century, Philadelphia today is a living, breathing testament to the undeniably rich history of the United States. Visit the Betsy Ross House, home to the woman credited for making the first American flag (historians are still debating this, however). Carpenter’s Hall is a beautiful, brick building—an exquisite example of Gregorian architecture and the location of the First Continental Congress. Make sure you stop at Declaration (Graff) House to witness where Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence. Your trip to Philly is not complete until you tour Independence Hall, the birthplace of the U.S. Constitution, and visit the Liberty Bell.
